What is an Enrolled Agent (EA) ? An enrolled agent is a person who is licensed by the Internal Revenue Service to act as a taxpayer's agent before the Internal Revenue Service or state tax authorities. To become an Enrolled Agent, one must past a four part examination over a two day period on tax law and regulations for individuals, partnerships, corporations, fiduciaries, estates and ethics. EA's must complete a minimum of twenty four hours of continuing education per year and follow a strict "code of conduct" that is put forth by the Department of Treasury.
